"I don't ever think I can ever learn how to love you right," is the center of Matt Maeson
's single "Tribulation." "I think I'm better on my own, but I'm so obsessed with you," he tugs back and forth in the bridge. From his debut EP Who Killed Matt Maeson,
the Virginia-born singer-songwriter delivers a track packed with feeling -- between the desperate lyrics and raspy delivery, it feels like a punch to the gut.
The video to go along with it is fittingly dark. Maeson sits on a couch with tears in his eyes and a cigarette in his hand as his love interest contemplates their relationship. Empty bottles of beer are spread across the table and a coin spins in slow motion, unsure of where it will land. The symbolism is on point, you guys.
Who Killed Matt Maeson
is out now and we can expect a debut full-length soon.
