The latest release off of the highly anticipated, Lorde
curated, and star studded soundtrack for Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Pt. 1
is a theatrical collaboration between Charli XCX
and Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon. The song is an unexpected departure from the high voltage battle anthems of Mockingjay's other collaborative features like Kanye West's brooding unmix
of Lorde's darkly glowing "Yellow Flicker Beat,"
and Ariana Grande and Major Lazer's bouncy morale booster "All My Love."
The track is a refreshing change of pace from Charli XCX, who abandons her usual brand of grinding in-your-face pop for a synth assisted piano pop requiem. Le Bon lends his still shockingly youthful vocals to the finale of the track. His verse pulls the song from regretful confessional into a tenderly blue love song. Give it a spin, below:
