...Wait, what? Fistful of Mercy, the supergroup known for their mostly acoustic, rootsy material, collaborating with erstwhile Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello, known for guitar antics about as far from acoustic as they can get? It really happened though, last night on Conan's newly minted late-night show, when the two entities got together to perform "Father's Son." The best part? Tom Morello actually fell in pretty easily with the rest of the band, which included a slide guitarist and violinist. Let's hear it for versatility, even if that solo did sound a little out of place.

Fistful of Mercy, which counts Ben Harper, Joseph Arthur, and Dhani Harrison (son of the late George Harrison) as members, released their first album As I Call You Down in October of this year. They are supporting the album with a world tour (US dates below).

Morello, meanwhile, has been keeping busy with an amazing variety of side projects and collaborations, from performances with a reunited Rage to his activist folk project the Nightwatchman to playing a terrorist in and contributing to the soundtrack for Iron Man. -peter menniti
