A lot of us can relate to the place Jennifer O'Connor emerged from to write her latest album, I Want What You Want. While on a break from the pressures of touring for her last two albums on Matador Records, she worked a series of odd jobs, ranging from bartender to freelance writer, and struggled with feelings of uncertainty about what she wanted to do with her life. As a result, the album is full of lyrics about renewal and a desire to move forward towards something better. In the song "Good Intentions" she sings "I don't wanna go where I always go/I don't want to be where I've been." It's a sweet continuance of the intimate acoustic simplicity found on much of the rest of the album. If I could, I'd play this song while on a sunny bike ride near Sunset Cliffs in San Diego and breath in the salty air.
I Want What You Want was released digitally this week, on November 8th. Stream the album in its entirety below.
