Part of my iTunes "on repeat until I blow up" playlist for the past month has been the consistently enjoyable and occasionally mind-blowing Friday tracks from Mr. Kanye West. So in his honor, he gets two slots on this week's collection (and some imitation artwork).

Monday we'll be taking a sabbatical, but check back for a few loose MP3s and a rap song I wrote for Columbus Day. Just kidding! Or am I?

    1. "Lost In The World" - Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

A leak off Kanye's incredibly anticipated album dropping 11/22. I apologize for the annoying blog tag all over the place, but this thing has been on repeat for the week and I CAN'T STOP. Featuring Bon Iver's "Up In THe Woods" and a spoken word interlude by Gil Scott-Heron. Makes me lose it, everytime.

    2. "In Every Direction" - Junip - Fields

From their debut album (finally!), Junip has an impressive collection of strangely mellow/compelling tunes, and this little diddy opens it up. We filmed them recently, so a bit of a bias there, but we filmed it for a reason.

    3. "Echoes" - Klaxons - Surfing The Void

Upon further inspection, the best song off of their latest EP. A particularly fantastic acoustic rendition can be found here on Baeble.

    4. "Doubt" - Delphic - Acolyte

I'm paying closer attention to these eletro up-and-comers after one of our writers gave them a nod. You should too.

    5. "I Want To Be Well" - Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz

I think it's cool our former videographer Reuben (the mustache wielder) and I both singled out this as one of the high points of Age of Adz, but in retrospect it's no coincidence. The titular cry is one of the most compelling we've heard from Stevens in a long time.

    6. "Coronado" - Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest

Bradford Cox: awkward, weirdo, genius. Halcyon Digest is out now and most definitely mispelled several times on this website somewhere (sorry guys!).

    7. "Crush" - Abe Vigoda - Crush

Crush is a bunch of sweaty, discontent noise pop, but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy it, despite my crippling inability to agree with anyone who looks like they belong on the other side of my arguments at Other Music. See? I enjoy your pet bands! Stop laughing at my love of Enema Of The State. Animal Collective still sucks live. Get over it.

    8. "All Tan Everything" - Das Racist - Sit Down, Man

Das Rcist's goes way beyond the brilliant play on Jay's "All Black Everything". It's free (grab the whole mixtape here, it's hilarious, and most importantly, it's a masterfully crafted word-playground. Listen to these lyrics. These guys do this for like 20 tracks. Unreal.

    9. "Percussion Gun" - White Rabbits - It's Frightening

VINTAGE. If all the pros can put old stuff on their tapes, so can I. Someone sent me It's Frightening again (it's over a year old), so here we are, heavy listening again. If you haven't picked it up yet, you're in for a treat, one of my favorites of last year. Nothing terrible new to report, they'll be in New York soon and I WILL BE THERE.

    10. "I'm So Appalled" - Kanye West - G.O.O.D. Friday

Congrats, Kanye. You get on this week's tape twice. This GOOD Friday track from a few weeks ago is just so good, and Jay Z usually just annoys me these days, but this verse is no fluff, solid blistering. Also featuring RZA, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz, and Cyhi Da Prynce.
