After leading the eponymous musical collective Nahko and Medicine for the People
for nine years, front man Nahko Bear recently debuted his single "Dragonfly" in anticipation of the release of his first solo album My Name is Bear.
"Dragonfly" starts invitingly by featuring Bear's skill as a singer-songwriter, with a simple acoustic melody draped over the gentle yet full-bodied lyrical prowess that brought Bear such acclaim with Medicine for the People.
As a story of transformation, the song is fittingly accompanied by a lush and bucolic video following Bear's close friend Paris Jackson through her own personal narrative of growth and transformation. As the story builds, "Dragonfly" expands upon itself with engaging percussion and bass, and vocal harmonies that engage in a gorgeous and uplifting call and response.
Simultaneously subtle and powerful, "Dragonfly" deftly sets the stage for what promises to be a work of art in My Name is Bear,
to be released October 20.
