If you're thinking of going as your favorite pop/rock star this Halloween, take note: someone's going to make you deliver an impression to go with that Ariana Grande
costume. And no one does better impressions of musicians than their fellow entertainers, who have presumably spent enough time in the studio or at awards shows to pick up some of their quirks. And speaking of Ariana Grande...
1. Ariana Grande doing Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion
Hold on, this is amazing. Ariana Grande is a freaking genius. I think I'm a little late to the game here, but is Ariana Grande maybe the best?
2. Denzel Washington does Jay-Z
Okay, his impression is about 5 seconds long, but it's hilarious. Also, fun fact I learned from this video: Denzel hangs out with Lenny Kravitz and Jay-Z in the studio in his off time.
3. Jimmy Fallon does Neil Young
Jimmy Fallon isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you just had me watch the first part of this video, I would have thought he was actually Neil Young. This almost isn't a parody of Neil Young--it's just a really convincing body double.
4. Jamie Foxx's Prince Impression
Jamie Foxx's Prince impression is good, but I want you all to know that the only reason I didn't put Dave Chapelle's legendary prince impression on this list is because I couldn't find the embed code for the video (so here's a link
5. Kate Mckinnon as Justin Bieber
Kate McKinnon doesn't sing, but let's be honest--Bieber is as famous for his adolescent antics as his actual music career. And SNL's McKinnon does nail the over-confident pretty boy attitude of Bieber in his old Calvin Klein underwear modeling commercials.
6. Fred Armisen and Bill Hader's impression of the Eagles
Armisen and Hader made up their band, the Blue Jeans Committee, for their parody Netflix show Documentary Now!, and they don't specifically call out the Eagles, but everyone knows. Also, Jenny Hval once called this genre of music "soft dick rock", which is maybe the best description of it that I've ever heard.
7. Jermaine Clement as David Bowie
Boy, aren't you glad you got to see Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords wearing that Bowie costume? Try not to think about that before you close your eyes before you go to sleep tonight.
Or if you need to wash it down with something less terrifying, consider...
8. David Bowie Impersonating Bruce Springsteen, Iggy Pop, Neil Young, and others
Why am I surprised that Bowie did spot-on imitations of his contemporaries? That Bruce Springsteen impression is dead-on. The Iggy Pop is actually indistinguishable. Bowie really could do everything.
