With Halloweekend officially upon us, you're probably counting on a huge party this weekend and an incredibly aggressive trick-or-treating session Monday. But what, you ask, is going to be the soundtrack for this Halloweekend? Look no further than RL Grime's
"Halloween V" mix. The one of a kind hip-hop/trap/electronic producer's fifth annual mix is a spooky, danceable, high-energy masterpiece. RL Grime released the mix through Soundcloud at midnight last night, after teasing on Twitter a couple days ago with this 90s-themed video.
The hour-long mix features an intro from Pharrell Williams, who announces to the whole world, "I don't know what else to say except, this guy is bestial." The majority of the tape features verses from some of rap's hottest names. You can hear Young M.A., Kendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, and many more rapping over RL Grime's beautifully chaotic beats. Though it's heavy on the newest generation of hip-hop, a generation not favored by older fans, the focus remains on capturing the spirit of hip-hop as a whole alongside RL's added electronic flavor. There's also a few old heads in the mix, with throwback verses from Mobb Deep and Mike Jones present. RL premieres the new track "Waiting," a crazy collaboration with Skrillex and What So Not to end the tape.
By far the most unexpected appearance comes from everyone's favorite children's horror author R.L. Stine, of Goosebumps
fame. Stine contributes the spooky 'drop' around the 15-minute mark, warning us, "believe only half of what you see, and nothing that you hear." You know, because this mix is unbelievably good. If you're looking to take your Halloweekend to the next level, RL Grime has what you need. Put away the "Monster Mash" and get grimey - this is not your mother's Halloween party (seriously, your mother will most likely not like this mix).
