Somehow against all odds of the advancement of civilization, we live in a world filled with violence, bigotry, hate, and viral marketing. John Grant
is attempting to use the latter to combat all of the formers. Grant is heading out on tour to support Queen Of Denmark
, his 2009 record featuring backing band Midlake
. But before he does, he wants you to hear his thoughts. I give you one of the songs from Queen
. It's called "Jesus Hates F*ggots". Also yikes!
The song itself is indicative of Grant's style on Queen Of Denmark
brutally honest, and powerfully raw (we discussed it earlier this year
, devotees will recall). Despite the jarringly shocking title, the song shelters a sensitive and important message of tolerance in our still troubling times. Grant may not know the art of subtelty, but his message comes from the heart, and he means only to shock us into admitting there is still an issue with this stuff in the world (and to address his own demons).
Catch Grant on tour if you want more of his stuff. Queen Of Denmark
is out now. -joe puglisi
