A month after the release of their seventh studio album Sleep Well Beast
, The National
have released a delectable music video treat for the song "I'll Still Destroy You".
Filmed in one hour in Copenhagen, Denmark, the video was a wild collaboration between The National and Icelandic performance artist Ragnar Kjartansson, who makes a cameo as a male stripper in a golden banana hammock popping bottles of champagne, giving you somewhat of an idea of what you're in for. Set to the backdrop of the pop-up bar Dope & Korruption, which was eventually shut down and destroyed by Danish authorities, the video is as aesthetically powerful and pleasing as the track it accompanies.
As the stage is set with a raucous party replete with plenty of champagne, confetti, and fog machines, The National performs to and among the attendant audience with a cool acceptance to the madness going on around them. Between the pure joie de vivre of the audience and the intimate performance of the band, the whole act feels like an impassioned celebration of the end of the world, a celebration to end all celebrations. It's hard to walk away from it without feeling some major FOMO.
The National are currently in the middle of their world tour supporting Sleep Well Beast
