I stepped outside of Terminal 5 covered in confetti and glitter. It was clear as everyone walked down to 11th Avenue that we had just left a Flaming Lips show. Tame Impala and The Flaming Lips played to a sold out show of 3,000 people, including fans completely covered in silver body paint. The Flaming Lips latest album,The Terror, is energetic and thoughtful. The show opened just as the record does with "Look...The Sun Is Rising". It created a perfect transition from the kaleidoscopic set provided by Tame Impala, which prepared the crowd for what was coming. The Flaming Lips hadn't even begun to play before Wayne Coyne was throwing confetti with some help from his little baby Wayne. The Flaming Lips don't just play music, they put on a theatrical performance. Ten minutes into the show, Wayne declared, "this is the coolest show we've ever played." And I'm pretty sure everyone there last night agreed.
