Google often celebrates holidays, special occasions, and historical figures by creating "Doodles." And today, they are celebrating the legacy of Selena Quintanilla
aka "Queen of Tejano Music," who tragically died in 1995.
On October 17, 1989, Selena released her self-titled debut album and swept people away with her undeniable talent. She made immense contributions to the music industry, and became one of the most influential Latin artists of all time. In addition to music, she was a major influence as a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and fashion icon.
The animated singing cartoon is set to the popular tune "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom." It features Selena transforming from a young child to a young adult. She joyfully sings into a microphone brush and performs in various venues and outfits with her band. The Doodle captures the infectious, charismatic energy in which Selena inspired and transferred to her fans.
Two years in the making, Selena's family collaborated closely with the Google team to ensure that the Doodle vision was appropriately fulfilled. An online exhibit entitled "Fotos y Recuerdos" was also released on Tuesday, displaying various Selena artifacts.
So go to the Google homepage, and celebrate the Queen. Or, watch below.
