It may come as a surprise to many, but I rarely get a chance to leave the office. However, yesterday by a strange twist of fate due to a week's worth of site programming mishaps, our blog ceased and my shackles were broken. In celebration of my cubicle liberation, I grabbed our office camera and hit the streets to take in a bit of what CMJ had to offer. And the NYC-based fest is proving to be a thriving atmosphere for this year's latest musical insurgents; the crusty garage punks.
New York City's tiniest venues are regularly packed to the sweaty gills to see up-and-coming groups perform. Yesterday I was initially baffled to see the post-lunch turnout at Pianos for rising Welsh group Joanna Gruesome
who ripped through a quick day show held in part of Kanine Records and SESAC's Trick or Treat Party. The group's jangly fuzz mood swings sent the crowd ablaze. Check out the photos below.
