was one of those punk bands devolved into generica with breathtaking speed.
Forgettable as their music has been, they've definitely lived the punk ethos just fine, evidenced nowhere better than by Laura Jane Grace. Formerly Thomas Gabel, she came out as transgendered back in 2012 and walked the proverbial line by being perfectly frank and unapologetic about it. Which was enough to earn her a mini-web series called True Trans with Laura Grace
The first four episodes went live today over at AOL and the results are well, actually the results are pretty boring. It's a very straightforward recounting about Grace's early days forming Against Me!, the band's history, the prejudice she encountered and her struggles with gender dysphoria. It plays in style and tone and content like an episode of Behind the Music, but with a bit more emotional reserve in terms of direction and nothing much exceptional to recommend it. If you're a fan of Against Me! or Grace then it's insightful enough, but it's rather plain besides.
You can watch the first episode here if you're interested.
