CMJ Band of the Day: ARMS

Another Launch Pad persona to get to know: ARMS was once the solo pseudonym of Todd Goldstein, ex-guitarist for the beloved Harlem Shakes of Brooklyn. His debut Kids Aflame was quietly mined by critics as a genuine success and criminally overlooked. Then with the Shakes disbanded, Goldstein turned to his ARMS moniker full-time and pulled together drummer Tlacael Esparza, bassist Matty Fasano, and keyboardist Dave Harrington to create an EP, aptly titled EP, which dropped last year. It fundamentally changed the band's core, going from Goldstein's bedroom noodling to a four-piece refreshing bite out of Brooklyn's finest ambient pop.

    Give it a listen.

Now the band is prepping an LP called Summer Skills, a self-proclaimed song cycle/concept album and the first full length creation of ARMS the band. Check out the first single, "Fleeced":

And the teaser trailer has us all kinds of amped. It features that first single and promises the sort of epic, everyman rock that made Arcade Fire's The Suburbs so universally affecting.

Summer Skills is out in November. Catch ARMS playing some new tunes at The Launch Pad on Friday.
