The Naked and Famous are anything but stripped down. Their tunes contain a dizzying track-count, booming bass accents under a synthetic symphony, rounded out by the vocal harmonies and guitar of front-people Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith. So when conceiving a session with the band, we knew a larger approach was necessary. Rolling in with plugs a plenty in the basement of the Bowery Electric, the band was pumping a fully formulated sound in this "in the box" session, playing all the pieces on the fly for maximum energy and effect. To have a completely live session sound so compressed, polished, and clean, with so many errant components, is a blissful experience for all involved. Get a taste of it for yourself.
The band played a few choice jams from their electronic opus, Passive Me, Aggressive You, slow-burner "The Sun", and the spry single set of "Young Blood" and "Punching in a Dream." Watch all three with some comments from the band on writing, recording, and breaking out of New Zealand to become a worldwide sensation.
