Back in 2009, Susan Boyle
took the stage to audition for Britain's Got Talent. The frumpy, unemployed, then-47-year-old was basically insta-shunned by the audience when she announced she wanted a professional singing career like Elaine Paige.
Undeterred, or maybe just totally unaware, Susan opened her mouth and the most unexpected surprise came out: a beautiful voice that bowled over the audience, judges, and earned her deafening applause.
Her appearance on the show took her all the way to the finale, where she came in second, but skyrocketed her career and album sales above and beyond top tier established music artists.
It's hard not to feel a little inspired by Ms. Boyle's gregarious nature and awkwardly charming banter with Simon Cowell.
