In a recent interview with British Vogue, Taylor Swift revealed that she is no longer looking to date because she doesn't believe a relationship is compatible with her current lifestyle: "I don't know how a guy is supposed to walk next to his girlfriend when there are 20 men with cameras, and he can't protect his girlfriend because that's the life she chose." Cool, Taylor, cool. Because girlz r helpless, lol?
The not-so-subtle misogyny of that comment aside, the issue this presents for Taylor's career is that she is an artist who has made her millions writing about pretty much one thing: Boys. Boys. Boys. But Taylor is looking to branch out; she says, "With this album I've completely changed the sound of everything I've done until now. So it's interesting to not be afraid of that. You know, I don't want to hurt people's feelings, I don't want to betray Nashville, whatever, but essentially it comes down to challenging yourself as an artist." Agreed. Will this utter abandonment of everything that fans have related to in the past prove fruitful for Swift?
Probably. Kinda seems like at this point, even though Everything Has Changed the girl is pretty Fearless and Untouchable. We can hate all we want, but she's clearly going to Shake It Off!
