SNL: Kelly Clarkson and Charles Barkley

It seems like a lot of Saturday Night Live hinges on the "hit or miss" principal, which states that they either nail it or leave us in awkward disbelief. Unfortunately, this week's episode was populated with a disproportionate amount of misses, which is hilarious, considering it was the single highest rated episode in the past seven years. Go figure! And whether it was the lackluster writing coming off the holiday break, three-time host Charles Barkley's inability to act and/or read cue cards, a cold open that wouldn't have entertained a baby, and a totally irrelevant musical guest, no one can say. But it was probably some of those things. A few highlights below.

"Drunk Uncle" wins all the laughs.

It pains me to give an example of Barkley's performance but this is the best one (despite still being pretty awful).

And Kelly Clarkson performed some neat and tidy pop music.

    "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)":

    "Mr. Know-It-All":

Next week we've got host Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and another somehow famous face who seems impervious to all the killing spells being flung at her: musical guest Lana Del Rey. 2012 is already living up to its Mayan roots.
