New Music: The Shins

    It's been some time since James Mercer's band The Shins released new material (so long that the roster of the band has totally rolled over at least once, Mercer being the only original member). "Simple Song" is prepped to be the first offering from Port Of Morrow, the new LP, and you can get a spoonful (read: advance listen) this afternoon by signing up for the band's mailing list.

    The album is out 3/20 on Columbia, and will feature formats including vinyl, CD, digital downloads and even a limited edition deluxe version on reel-to-reel tape. A few familiar faces gave Mercer a helping hand with recording, like Janet Weiss of Wild Flag, Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse (who tours with Mercer now), Eric D. Johnson of the Fruit Bats, and former Shins members Dave Hernandez and Marty Crandall, who are no longer in the touring band.
