Now that 2015 has officially come to a close, we're looking forward to new releases in 2016. Last year was a stellar time for music so we're raising the bar for this year. As we anticipate new music, we put together a list of the top 10 albums we're most anxious to hear, ranging from mysterious releases like Frank Ocean to definite releases like Rihanna.
10. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
The rap/pop duo recently released their new single "Downtown" featuring Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz and Eric Nally. The track is reminiscent of their first hit "Thrift Shop" which, whether you admit it or not, is a song you've loved at some point. We're interested to see what kind of artistic direction they're going to take on the next record.
9. Gwen Stefani
Stefani came out of hiding with her heartbreak anthem "Used To Love You." Ever since the song was released, she's been making her rounds performing on shows such as The Voice, The Ellen Show, and The Tonight Show. Although we don't know exactly when the new album is coming out, the singer confirmed that it will be out this year and described it as "pure and honest."
8. Tegan and Sara
The Canadian pop duo's last album Heartthrob was released in 2013. It was the album where their sound took a sharp turn down a more synth-pop path and they pulled it off well. On Instagram, they confirmed that they had been working on their eighth studio album.
7. Kanye West
We've been anticipating Kanye West's new album, Swish, for a while now, but there's still no sign of a definite release date. He did however release a new track called "FACTS," but because we didn't love it, he's taking a lower spot on this list.
6. Vampire Weekend
The New York indie rockers' last LP, Modern Vampires of The City, came out in 2013. A.K.A -- way too long ago. The band remains mysterious about a possible new album and fans are growing impatient.
The badass pop star's latest album ANTI is due to be released soon. Although there's no specific date yet, Rihanna has dropped a lot of teasers, including the video for her hit "Bitch Better Have My Money."
Drake had a stellar year in 2015. He surprised us with If You're Reading This, It's Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive with Future, both peaking at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. Although he he did a great job staying relevant with singles "Back To Back" and "Hotline Bling," he's already set to drop another album titled Views From The 6. Thanks for quenching our thirst, Drake.
"Royals" singer, Lorde, took to social media to announce that she had been in the studio working on her second album. She set the bar high for herself with her very first single, so we're hoping the second album solidifies her credibility and growth as a songwriter.
2. Frank Ocean
Well, you obviously saw this one coming, right? Mr. Ocean has been playing with our hearts since day one. He released an almost-perfect album, disappeared, got our hopes up for a Channel Orange-follow up, and then never delivered. He released a song called "Memrise" on Tumblr, which sparked even more excitement.
1. David Bowie
So far, David Bowie is the only artist with a confirmed release date. His 25th album, Blackstar, will be out on January 8th, the day of his 69th birthday. Ever since we heard the horn-filled title track, waiting for the rest of the album has become extremely difficult. And for that, Bowie takes the number 1 slot.
