    Lana Del Rey continues to be the subject of both scrutiny and excitement, as the masses of critics and audiophiles try to decide if she's authentic, aesthetically pleasing, or full of crap. We're inching closer to the release of her (we'll say "anticipated") debut, Born To Die, out 1/30. The real question (in my mind at least) is where is Del Rey looking to land in the tumultuous landscape of public opinion? Although most of her early efforts sound like pretty, twinkly twee meant for bloggers and people who only like pop music but want that "indie cred." But this latest leak, "National Anthem" (which will probably disappear soon, so get your fill) sounds like something else.



    While her earlier work seems to burn slowly, this track is straight pop, gunning for Billboard charts as much as notable ladies like Jessie J. But the added bits of sarcasm (no way she's saying any of this seriously), up against the usual pop tropes of happiness (and the stale notions of emotional simplicity), makes this (dare I say) kind of interesting. We'll be paying attention.
