Watch out, indie pop singer-songwriter Tei Shi
is the next big thing. Real name Valerie Teicher, just released her new single, "Keep Running," along with a video - and both are extremely hypnotic. Seeping dark colors like blue and purple, the sultry video shows the singer mysteriously dancing around in a slip dress and tight curls at a party, and it even features a little karaoke portion. "Every time I look over my shoulder, I'm getting older,"
Teicher starts the song off with, humming in a subtle and smooth falsetto. As she sings, "baby keep running, keep running from me / don't hesitate, don't make me wait,"
a churning synth bass makes you feel like you're underwater, and she adds more and more layers of gorgeous melodies.
Everything about Teicher is enchanting - her uncompromising, deconstructed pop and overall style. She exudes coolness and total bad-assery (is that a word? Well, now it is), and we'll be playing this track on repeat until her debut album, Crawl Space,
is available on March 31st via Downtown/Interscope Records.
