    One of 2012's most highly acclaimed albums,good kid, m.A.A.d. city, is continuing to carry the hype into the new year with the release of Kendrick Lamar's new music video for "Backstreet Freestyle."

    In contrast to the world of glitzed-up hip-hop music videos, this one takes a minimalist route as it's composed of black and white shots in Compton and Paris.

    Lamar has proclaimed the album itself to be a "short film" of sorts, and this video hosts some familiar characters - Kendrick's dad stars in a midway sketch and Sherane does, well, exactly what you might imagine Sherane to do. The video was directed by Jerome D., Dave Free, and Kendrick Lamar. Watch below:
