Approximately eight million years ago (in 2003) I saw a double-bill at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park with Maroon Five and a moderately popular singer/songwriter by the name of Jason Mraz
(with his trusty sidekick, the bongo-aficionado Toca Rivera). I had no idea I was looking at two of the soon-to-be most successful pop artists of the early twenty-tens, especially Mraz. He used to be all about the wordplay (until he said it out loud as the title of a song). I also didn't know that Youtube would be a thing, or that it would become required for pop artists to release lyric videos, and although this is a creative one, I'm 99% sure that knowing every word makes me meh harder. But it's Mraz's show, his rocket came and went, so let's inhale the fumes.
Looks like 2012 found its new prom song. Personally, I'll always prefer the old, DMB-leaning Mraz (See below), but I'm in the 1% of indie music fans who would admit to going to a Jason Mraz concert and/or liking DMB in their heyday, so I guess that's a stupid sentence. Onward, Tuesday!
This is that "studio version ain't even on Spotify" underground, yo.
