Vince Staples' Chucks are barely clinging to the ground, which is not a surprise considering the response his Debut studio double album, Summertime '06, received. The production of the album was destined for greatness, but ultimately, it was Staple's lyrical voice that made the impact the more effective. It is always refreshing to hear young artists going further to express something dark and affective, something that encourages personal listening.
The Video for "Lift Me Up" emphasises that personal element of the music. The environment the video places us in is a seemingly deserted port on the outskirts of a city neighborhood. From the opening scene, accompanied by the opening of the album, we are lulled into this place with only the company of the gulls. We are then introduced to a floating Vince who the birds seem to take a liking to. It is a trance inducing, sometime dizzying, and downright enjoyable ride. Definitely check out this video, and afterwards give the rest of the album a listen.
