In order to get the blood pumping ahead of entering the studio to record what we're hoping is a thrilling batch of new songs, The Rural Alberta Advantage wrapped up a lightning fast round of tour dates last Thursday evening with a double dose of shows at The Mercury Lounge. We caught the Canadian trio's 8PM set; a tough ask of any band accustomed to playing several hours later, when the band's pre-show buzz (and the audiences' for that matter!) has kicked in. Still, those brittle, unrestrained, cycloning qualities we love so much never seemed paired down for the early crowd, as the band churned out an energetic 45 minutes worth of songs from their last two albums, Departing and Hometowns, as well as a rather privileged sneak peek of a few new ones. Dont worry...we can happily report fans of the band's last two records won't be let down by the new ones. We'll bestow more details of the album on you when we have them. For now, enjoy our Departing-era capture of the band playing live in Austin TX.
