Ok, let's take it slow because there is a lot to process here. On just one song we have Kali Uchis
, Tyler, The Creator
AND Bootsy Collins. Wow. "After The Storm" has something for everyone; a little bit of funk from Bootsy, the eccentric nature of Tyler, and of course, effortless flair from Kali. Hailing from Virginia, the Colombian-American singer has always been an addition to almost every playlist I've created. And that is for one reason: she is super talented. She writes her own music, sings her own songs, obviously, but she also plays a key role in the content she produces.
The video came to life with Nadia Lee Cohen's supreme expertise. The vibe of the song perfectly compliments Cohen's imagery and fits right in with all of her other works, creating this sort of time capsule. We open up with Kali sitting alone in her kitchen, while the cardboard cutouts shaped like clouds and lighting create a storm outside her window. The storm represents her breakup and everything that came along with it, like worrying about her late counterpart, breaking old habits, and finding confidence again.
This song joins the sultry singer's late releases ahead of her debut album, Fool's Paradise,
due out this spring.
