In a city like New York, the influx of singer/songwriter type personas vying for open mic real estate can be daunting, specifically if you're blindly attending one of the many free and open mic performances scattered around the village, Brooklyn, and beyond. Skip the filler and go straight to an event curated by professionals with a stake in the success of their artists. Performing rights juggernaut BMI is hosting a new monthly series at Pianos dubbed "The BMI Acoustic Lounge," which puts a bunch of promising young acts in conversation with one another on one shared stage. The first round featured a round-robin style performance from three different artists, Lyle Divinsky
, Ben Deignan
, and Kevin Haden
The evening also features attendance from BMI reps and other industry personas, making it an ideal location for aspiring musicians to converse, collect stories, and create ideas. From BMI:
BMI Acoustic Lounge NYC is an ongoing non genre-specific showcase featuring exciting up and coming songwriter/artists. If you are interested in playing at one of our showcases, you can submit music to Jake (email@example.com) for consideration. Subject Line should include: BMI Acoustic Lounge NYC.
It's a great opportunity to see some young talent reinforcing their creativity while having a few drinks together. Hopefully we'll see you at the next one.
