Irvine Welsh, author of Trainspotting, has seen his unabashed writing dance upon the silver screen in the past, and now he's developing a concept made specifically for television called Higher, an HBO comedy series about the EDM scene, in collaboration with UK DJ Calvin Harris. The series will be produced by Jay Z and Will Smith, who are also working together on a musical feature of Annie. Welsh has long been involved in the music scene, occasionally DJing and producing, and having a special fondness for house music. And anyone who is familiar with his work knows to expect some heavy, drug-related themes, which will tie perfectly to the EDM subject matter.

Last March, Welsh was asked to assemble a playlist by Sabotage Times that crosses all genres from Donna Summer to Brian Jonestown Massacre.

    Here are his top five:

    1. "Sunshine on Leith" - Proclaimers

    2. "If there is Something" - Roxy Music

    3. "Station to Station" - David Bowie

    4. "The Greatest Love of All" - Kevin Rowland

    5. "Hypo Full of Love" - Alabama 3
