Beginning in a weird western gothic setting, the fresh-faced pop music artists released a new video for their single "PARAD(w/m)E" today. The song itself is more of Sylvan Esso
's clean but big-hearted electronic pop, with a chorus that features singer Amelia Meath declaring lyrics that share the title of the song, "P-A-R-A-D with me!". A small group of eclectic looking individuals plus the duo that make up the band, Amelia Meath and Nicholas Sanborn, dance around this desert space in fun synchronicity until things get a little strange.
The song actually declares, "maybe there's food up there", when the group in the video then runs into what looks like a gas station in the middle of the desert with a sign above it that says "Cafe". From here, it's best not to watch if you haven't eaten in a while: people start literally showering themselves in gas station snacks. I can't say I've never had this urge--sometimes you go a while without eating on a road trip, you know?--but to see it actualized with people enthusiastically pouring cheese puffs on their faces is...strange. I've never seen so many people with such enthusiasm for popcorn and pretzels, but I get it. At the end of the video, the group gets run out by some grizzy-looking men with guns that presumably own the "cafe". Watch this video to see the literal definition of a food desert accompanied by Sylvan Esso's sweet new tune.
