Oscar nominations are out, and in a very cool musical twist, nestled between big names like John Legend and Common in the Best Original Song category, is '90s Top 40 artist, Gregg Alexander.

Back in the days of Doc Marten's, flannels, overalls, and a booming grunge rock scene, Alexander was fronting pop-rock outfit The New Radicals. Their hit "You Get What You Give" is their defining track, with dancey guitars, shoulder shaking beats and anthemic lyrics and delivery which have stood the test of time.

Alexander is nominated for his song "Lost Stars," sung by Maroon 5's Adam Levine. Gregg Alexander and frequent collaborator, Danielle Brisebois, wrote the song for the film Begin Again.

Time travel back to 1998 and enjoy his early day success as we raise our glass to his nomination.
