Mac Miller is usually sort of a mixed bag. He's an alright rapper, and if you're going to be a white rapper, you need to better than alright. You need to be Action Bronson/Aesop Rock good, and Mac Miller ain't that. That said, maybe the Pittsburgh hip-hop star deserves more credit than I've been giving him because he got R&B wunderkind Miguel to appear on his last record, GO:OD AM, on the track "Weekend." And if Miguel approves, maybe I should give him another shot.
Mac Miller just released the video for "Weekend" which finds him and Miguel cruising the city at night. There's still nothing earth-shattering about Miller's rhymes -- they're pretty meat and potatos stoner hip-hop stuff -- but Miguel provides a hell of a hook. Watch the video and decide for yourself if it was a wise career move for Miguel to team up with Mac Miller.
