President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama threw their final party in the White House and the guest list was ridiculous. Chance The Rapper, Usher, Paul McCartney, John Legend, Bruce Springsteen, and Stevie Wonder were just a few of the celebrities to bid the POTUS farewell. Solange Knowles, who is coming off of an incredible 2016 with the release of her album A Seat At The Table,
performed and had this to say on her Instagram afterwards, "We will miss your excellence, your grace, and the phenomenal legacy you have let us all share. #obamaout."
Chance The Rapper
recently posted a series of short videos where he recapped his experience at the party. Chance even began giving out superlatives from the party, including Best Dressed (given to himself), Best Looking (Esperanza Spalding), and Strongest Handshake (Dave Chappelle). In the video, Chance describes the party by saying "...it was historic, it was black, it was beautiful."
President-Elect Donald Trump has recently been having trouble recruiting stars and celebrities to perform at his upcoming inauguration. With this in mind, we broke out our crystal balls and tried to imagine what Trump's farewell party would look like... Here are 5 key highlights.
Fast forward 4 years and it's January 2021.
1. Once again, Meat Loaf is headlining.
Since 2017, Kid Rock, Kanye West, and Meat Loaf have taken turns performing at the White House for the President and First Lady. They've pulled all the weight for the music industry and it's getting old. Kanye has sang "Joy To The World" four straight Christmas's in a row, and every single time he has sang "Yeezus" instead of "the savior." Meat Loaf, meanwhile has performed at all of the White House turkey pardons, and Kid Rock has taken Easter Sundays.
2. The "Hollywood Elite" aren't allowed.
Helen Mirren, Tom Hanks, Leonardo Dicaprio, Samuel L Jackson? Nope. These stars aren't welcome to enter Trump's White House. The only actors and actresses invited this year are Nikita Mikhalkov, Vladimir Mashkov, Ingeborga Dapkunaite and other real down to earth celebrities.
3. Donald is the only one allowed to give out superlatives.
4. President Trump DJs and only plays Creed and Pink Floyd.
The POTUS grabbed the aux-chord and hoarded it the whole night. No matter how many times Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell asked if he could get the next song; he was refused. Donald wasn't even an attentive DJ. For most of the night the outgoing President just left Pink Floyd's The Wall
on shuffle. Even Vice-President Mike Pence was unable to put on his favorite Christian Electronic group: Empire of the Son of God.
5. "Macarena" is played every hour.
As a test, Trump blared the "Macarena" every hour to test the allegiance of his party goers. With the CIA and FBI watching from all angles, Donald walked around with his eyes peeled for any sign of dancing. This has been a Trump party tradition. If anyone is found grooving even slightly to the beat, they are quickly detained and placed on the other side of the wall.
