Get ready to storm the beaches, January 27th is going to be an intense day. We've been keeping track of all the artists that are planning to release music this month and somehow, most of our excitement is revolving around one Friday. We're not sure why so many different artists chose this day, maybe since it's a week after the Inauguration and we'll need something to cheer us up? Or maybe it's because it's going to be Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts 261st birthday day? Or because ANTI was released on the 27th last year? Well, whatever it is, here is what we're looking forward to:
1. Migos - C U L T U R E
The Atlanta Rap trio has already had a January to remember. Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) thanked the rappers during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, "Bad and Bougie" just topped the Hot 100 giving them their first number #1 spot, and they just released the incredible video for "T-Shirt" last Friday. C U L T U R E should be an incredible ending to their already impressive month.
2. Japandroids - Near to the Wild Heart of Life
Japandroids have left us wanting more since 2012. Their last album, Celebration Rock, was an iconic assortment of indie garage rock that sounded larger than life, even though the band is made up of only two members, Brian King (guitar, vocals) and David Prowse (drums, vocals). They've released two singles off their upcoming album - "Near to the Wild Heart of Life" and "No Known Drink or Drug" - and they've got us predicting more black-and-white album covers and screaming jams for the new year.
3. Cloud Nothings - Life Without Sound
Cloud Nothings are preparing to release their 5th studio album, Life Without Sound, and if this new music video is anything like the upcoming album, we're incredibly stoked. This lo-fi pop rock band from Cleveland has been our radar for a while now and we're excited to see how Life Without Sound expands on the punk tendencies from songwriter and frontman, Dylan Baldi.
4. Ty Segall - Ty Segall
Garage rocker, Ty Segall, is gearing up to release his second self-titled album on January 27th. We got a sneak peak when he released the single "Orange Color Queen", which he told NPR was about his girlfriend, Dene.
5. Weyes Blood and Ariel Pink - Myth 002
On Friday, Weyes Blood and Ariel Pink announced that they're releasing an EP entitled Myths 002, in anticipation of the Marfa Myth Festival this March. Today, they released the first single from the EP, "Tears On Fire". This song switches between dreamy acoustic harmonies and bold screeching operatic vocals from Natalie Mering of Weyes Blood. With the release of "Tears On Fire", we're actually more confused as to what the rest of this collab will sound like but were still pumped to find out.
