On 23rd July 2012 To Kill A King release their self-produced 6-track 'Word of Mouth EP' which was recorded live in Fortress Studios. It will be available as a free download over the summer, and 500 hand printed copies will be circulated to fans who will be encouraged to share it in unusual ways. The release accompanies festival appearances at Bestival, Wilderness, Camp Bestival, Kendal Calling,
Leefest, Belladrum and Splendour and an eleven-date UK headline tour in Autumn.
The release follows the band's program of 'guerilla gigs' acoustic sets played nationwide showcasing their five-part harmonies in unusual and secret locations such as the DLR, river banks, shops, train stations and fans homes. This year the band have also produced the Muzu.tv featured series 'Ralphs Balcony which featured collaborations with artists such as Emily Wood and We Were Evergreen.
So far in 2012 To Kill A King have played at Field Day, Forbidden Fruit, Parklife, Rockness and Leefest festivals and supported Lucy Rose and Bastille at Heaven and the Scala.
To Kill A King released their debut single Fictional State on Ben Lovetts Communion Label in 2011.Since then, they have had a residency at Ronnie Scotts, promoted a successful club night 'To Kill A King Presents, embarked on UK headline and support tours and sold out Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, the Garage and XOYO (as part of Q Magaizines 'Now: The Sessions series).
Their second single Bloody Shirt was iTunes single of the week (50,000+ downloads), received Radio 1 airplay from Zane Lowe and Huw Stevens, Radio 2 airplay from Nemone and was playlisted on XFM and Absolute Radio. Their new album, due for completion this summer, is produced by Jim Abbiss (Adele, Bombay Bicycle Club) Charlie Hugall (Florence and the Machine, Ed Sheeran) and Andy Green (Keane, Paulo Nutini).
To Kill A Kings sound begins with lead singer Ralph Pelleymounters acoustic songs, around which the band work in drums, bass, electric guitar, synth and other instruments. They focus on Pelleymounters lyrical narrative, with accompaniments ranging from tender instrumentals to climactic orchestral passages including strings, brass and five-part harmonies. This combination has been described as "rousing orch-folk.multilayered songs complicated in structure but straight to the emotional point" (The Guardian), and "smooth and emotive" (Q Magazine).
