The "Stay Or Go" video is about the frantic restlessness of being in your early twenties and feeling constantly compelled to seek or forge an identity and a life; its about the struggle of being just one person wanting to experience, see, taste, meet, be everything and everyone at once. It is about the dichotomy of living between two radically different places. Roth has lived in Brooklyn since 2010 yet the rural island of Marthas Vineyard is what she calls home. "I identify strongly with both existences and am constantly torn between the two, never fully satisfied by either inspired this video," said Roth. Roth and director Joel W. Henderson did a beautiful job of depicting this coming of age story in the splicing of Brooklyn panoramas and Vineyard winding roads.
LEXIE ROTH is the daughter of famed guitarist Arlen Roth and his late wife, incredibly talented visual artist, Deborah Bussichio. Her grandfather Al Roth (Pen-name Al Ross) was the oldest living New Yorker Cartoonist who just passed at the age of 100. Coming from such a musical and artistic background, it was only natural to follow suit. She has been playing music since she was about 8 years old, and has become quite an accomplished guitarist, even though she started out on bass guitar and piano. She played in several bands in her developing years on both bass and guitar, and was always the featured vocalist.
Her debut album One Long Blink was released when she was 18 years of age and gained some attention as far as Japan. Since then, she has appeared on two of her fathers albums, Toolin Around Woodstock featuring Levon Helm on drums and his previous album Landscape. Her new self titled album consists of 11 original tracks written and performed by Lexie Roth on lead and backup vocals and guitar, Sam Mason on drums (Willy Mason/The Acrylics), Nina Violet on bass and some backup vocals (Nina Violet/Band of Arrows/Kahoots), Matthew Cullen as engineer and on accompanying guitars and noise with special guest Lexie's father Arlen Roth on lead guitar. Alex Salzman, who engineered her first project "One Long Blink" played keys and mixed the album beautifully. This self-titled album was originally recorded in Lexie's home on Martha's Vineyard during the early spring in March 3 years ago. She had a calling to go West and disappeared in the sage covered hills of Ventura County and LA and mountain biked for an entire year.
Coming back east to Brooklyn she refocused on music and got her head out of the clouds and dove straight back into the project, reworked some vocals and added some guitar and now it's ready for the world to hear. Her sound is refreshing because there is no affectation to her voice. It is as real and pure as she is as a person. The album has drive with drum fills that will get stuck in your head, bass that chugs it along like a train and harmonies that will make your heart melt. Her song "Call You My Hon" off her new album was featured in the independent film "Maria My Love" produced and directed by Jasmine McGlade Chazelle in which stars Karen Black. Lexie sings "Vaya Con Dios" on the brand new release of the Les Paul Tribute Album "Thank You Les" along side of Keith Richards, Jose Feliciano, Steve Miller, Slash, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Eddie Brigati Jr. (The Young Rascals) and many other greats who played with Les Paul through the years. She lives between Brooklyn, NY and her real home-base Martha's Vineyard, MA. Lexie performs with her black Gretsch and hand beaded Jodi Head strap that says her name in Rhinestones and jewels with her band or solo.
A music video will soon be released of her first single "Stay Or Go" off the new album. She is currently working on new material for a new project.
