Kylie Hughes taps into a Halloween vibe, mixing glamour with unexpected thrills and chills in her pop stomper video, "Leave It Alone."

Artist Bio

"The enchanting Kylie Hughesleaves an indelible mark on the kind of visceral pop which makes the greats great." -Popdust

A blend of contemporary pop, lighthearted country accents, and a little mischief, Kylie Hughes brings something new to the musical landscape. The multi-talented Southern California born and raised singer-songwriter offers a glimpse of her passion for spontaneous adventure, the laid-back beach lifestyle, and a healthy dose of heartbreak or love to all of the music she makes.

Starting at the age of 12, Kylie was recording and writing music. It started with Christmas songs for her family and friends and lead to original self-produced music as a freshman in high school. This naturally lead to studying music at Pepperdine College which helped hone her natural talent. After finishing College, she went on to launch her first EP as a recording artist "Calipopicana". The EP was inspired by 60's pop rock and the Malibu beach lifestyle she grew up on. The EP earned her fans and critics landing features in Examiner, Good Day LA, K-CAL TV 9, Instyle.com, Music Connection's Hot 100 Unsigned Artists, just to name a few. "Working on the "Calipopicana" EP was a fun experience, but I longed to write and sing about more personal experiences and a bit of my darker side that exists."

It started with her next single in 2016, Never Ever which was about unrequited love and ultimately knowing the loss is his. The emotional intensity of this song is also conveyed in the video that features Kylie as a Bride abandoned at the alter and left alone in the mountains. The visual process of making videos for her songs are an important process for Kylie. "A majority of my songs are written with a visual in mind. Then when I get the chance to do a video for that song, I get to show the audience a full picture of what that songs are. Like a little mini movie of what you're supposed to hear, see and feel. That's really the cherry on top of a song sundae." She did this again with the track "Take Me Anywhere" (Produced by Nashville's Mike Shimshack - Laura Bell Bundy, Megan & Liz) creating a stunning video to go with the song. Inspired by her real-life relationship, this video follows Kylie and her fianc on a road trip through California. The video takes you along on a road trip to some of my favorite places in California and even some places I had never been before, Kylie Hughes told Twist Magazine. The scenic visuals offer fans a look at every side of Cali-living, with mountainside views in Malibu, a stop at Salvation Mountain and a nighttime romp along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I love being outside, I love camping and I love adventuring with my best friend, Kylie explains, Hopefully we dont make anyone feel like a third wheel.

Kylies new musical growth can ultimately be seen on what will mark the release of her first full length album. In an era where artists are just releasing singles, it is refreshing to hear from a voice that has something to say in 12 songs. The album conveys a much stronger Kylie - one rooted in knowing exactly what she wants as an artist and working with producers she connects with on a deep level. The first single off of the Self-Titled Album is Heat a light-hearted pop rock song Kylie states I love muscle cars and I love movies like Footloose, where the guy pulls up in the hot car and the girl jumps in and they drive off into the sunset making out.... this song gives me that carefree/reckless feeling. That's just hot and uncontainable. This track was recorded with up and coming Producer Mark McKee. Mark is the next big thing. He's so positive and never without a brilliant idea whenever you need it. We recorded everywhere from his garage to his studio. He's the man.

The album also takes some decidedly darker turns which can we be heard on the track Always On Your Side. Produced and Co-written by Ben Jaffe (of the critically lauded band honeyhoney), Kylie describes this song as the most emotional song on the record. I've always been fascinated by people that are 'ride or die because they're trying to make a bad thing work. We've all been there and for me, I have to learn things the hard way and sometimes you learn by fully committing to falling on your face. You can feel the creative connection between Kylie and Ben in the song we immediately got very deep and he likes to call bullshit when music or lyrics arent up to par, and I like that because people rarely call bullshit. He definitely pushed me to get real but we also laugh a lot. It's like a fine balance of laughing and crying.

Other collaborators on the album include Grammy Nominated Brandon Friesen and Nashvilles Mike Shimshack. Brandon is a well-oiled machine; He can take a song from the floor to the rafters without losing the feel or emotional meaning of a song. Your song is always in safe hands with him. Together they created the bluesy rock track Leave it Alone and the ironic dreamy mid-tempo track Hungover.

Shimshack was one of her earliest collaborators for this album When we started writing together, I didn't have much of a vocabulary for trying to convey the direction or sounds in production that I wanted to take. So, I would give a vague, confusing description and he would just get me. Definitely helped give me more confidence in the production side of the recording studio. The laid back Free Fallin and heartbreaking Love Somebody Else came out of one of their many Nashville Sessions.

Kylie also has many other musical accomplishments under her belt, having gigged both with her band and performed solo acoustic sets in numerous Hollywood hotspots (Viper Room, Hotel Caf, House of Blues), and local clubs in and around Malibu (Malibu Inn, Sunset Lounge, Canyon Club). Additionally, the pop songstress also sang the National Anthem before a concert by John Mayer at the California Mid-State Fair; shared the stage with The Beach Boys in Thousand Oaks, CA and with Jewel in Napa, CA and performed a duet in 2013 at Carnegie Hall with Michael W. Smith.

Kylie has been a trailblazer all her life. She is a classic American Girl. Daring to march to the beat of her own quirky drum and where that may take her, has led to her first album to be released Spring 2017. "I am excited for the world to hear the music I have been making. This is my new beginning and its about damn time."
