plays off that boy-girl "are they a couple?" mythos, but unlike friends and lovers like Tennis and Summer Camp, they have a teacher/pupil relationship. Different! Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe (one Yankee, one Brit) got together when Kacey (29) started teaching Alice (18) Dinosaur Jr. songs on the guitar. Now the duo make aerated acoustic jams together, without the clutter of a bothersome rhythm section, instead opting for intimacy and vocal emphasis with minimal guitar fuzz accents. It makes for an intensely personal aesthetic, so it's only fitting the video for their latest single, "Talk" (off their debut LP Lights Out
, available now) features some pretty intense invasion of personal space. Yes you guessed it, ad hoc surgery in someone's kitchen.
Big Deal are a boy/girl indie pop duo comprised of Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe. Their debut, Lights Out, was an understated one, centered around just two guitars (one electric, one acoustic) and their two voices. Following the albums release in August of 2011, Big Deal made plans to play several U.K. festivals, including Wireless, Lounge on the Farm, and Reading and Leeds. For their second album June Gloom, the pair worked with producer Rory Attwell, who helped add a '90s noise-pop inspired heft to their sound.
