Show Review

Oh, Animal Collective. Never change. Never change. The Baltimore freak-folkers are releasing their latest studio record, Painting With, next month, and lead single "FloriDada" was more Feels than Centipede Hz (for the AnCo uninitiated, that's a good thing). And the band just dropped the music video for the track today, and for a band known for weird music videos, "FloriDada" finds the band really earning their reputation as oddballs. You could have the word "DRUGS!!!" flash over the screen for about four minutes and it would have the same effect.

It's a psychedelic and rapidly flashing video that comes with an epileptic seizure warning. And the video is such a blur of swirling colors and strange visuals of a multicolored and naked (but genitalia-less) man and woman falling in love and having an Electric Kool-Aid Acid baby. There are moments of genuine innovation in the video that harken back to some of the best moments from the "Brothersport" video, but a good portion of the video for "FloriDada" just reeks of self-parody and I hope we're not getting that next month on the new record. More "In the Flowers" less "Moonjock."
