Song List

Show Review

If you're still harboring the post-holiday blues this late into January, then we've got just the thing to cheer you up. Swedish-Danish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andreas Moe brought his acoustic guitar to Thrillist Holiday Hideaway last month and we've got the entire performance, plus an interview at Baeble HQ. It's a stripped-back session - just Andreas, his guitar, and some festive revelers - but his easy charm shines through for a great little show.

Andreas Moe picked up his Dad's old Gibson Les Paul when he was twelve, reluctantly abandoning dreams of ice hockey stardom, and he's been strumming ever since. Over the years he's honed his craft by writing songs for others, working as a session guitarist and featuring on tracks with the likes of Hardwell, Tiesto, and Avicii. It's a strange list of collaborators, given Moe's indie-folk tendencies in his own releases, but his ability to jump between different styles just highlights his knack for writing songs, regardless of genre.

His relentless work ethic when it comes to writing new material produced enough songs to fill his latest EP nearly ten times over, but he only picked the best of the bunch to populate the tracklist for Maybe It's All We Dreamed Of, which arrived back in September of last year.

or I was introduced to music, when I was 12.
Before that, I wanted to become a professional ice hockey player.
I wanted to play in SHL.
My dad showed me his Gibson Les Paul, took it down from the attic when I was 12.
Ever since that day when I was 12 and I saw the guitar, I couldn't stop playing.
But I broke free When I first laid my eyes on you
'Cause you were dressed like the seasons Somehow you saw me, too
You said, "There's a station down the road, you wanna feel what life's about?"
I heard my father in the distance But we ran till day was night
'Cause I've been told to stand my ground I've been told to walk the line
Told to stay away from worries like you And I've been told to fold my wings
There is no such thing as dreams Told to stay away from trouble like you
I got some hope inside my pocket Gonna build me something new
And it's startin' here with you ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
My name is Ray I've been waiting for you
I've always been some kind of lonesome stranger is all I knew how to do
But you brought us down the road They wanna sell their old man's car
You see, it won't take us far But it'll take us somewhere
I've been told to stand my ground I've been told to walk the line
Told to stay away from trouble like you I've been told to fold my wings
There is no such thing as dreams Told to stay away from trouble like you
I got some hope inside my pocket Gonna build me something new
And it's startin' here with you ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Left a note up on the fencepost That they're probably readin' now
And I'm just gonna catch my breath Then I'll kiss your country mouth
'Cause I've been told to stand my ground I've been told to walk the line
I've been told stay away from trouble like you
And I've been told to fold my wings There is no such thing as dreams
Told to stay away from trouble like you
I got some hope inside my pocket Gonna build me something new ooh
And it's startin' here with Startin' here with
Startin' here with you ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Thank you.
I started writing songs for others, and I realized quite quickly that I was pretty good at that.
It's almost like you can be someone else for a while and you can just, like… I can just put on my little songwriter's hat and be someone else, so that was pretty cool.
So, I started doing that, got into the whole EDM dance world, got introduced to a lot of… like Avicii, Tiesto, Hardwell, all those kind of big shots.
I was like, "Okay, what do I do now?" So they asked me to feature on their songs, and at first I was like, "Well," you know, "I'm the guy with the guitar.
" I'm the guy with… you know, the campfire kind of guy, you know? Doing those kind of songs, it made it possible to do what I really want to do because that put my name on people's radars, and labels were like, "Okay, who's this guy?" And people started listening to my songs, my original songs, my guitar-driven songs.
Thank you so much.
My name is Andreas Moe.
I'm from Stockholm, Sweden.
Good to be here.
Thank you for having me.
I hope you're having a good day so far.
I'm going to play a couple of songs, hope you're going to like them.
I'm gonna start a fire And I'm gonna watch it burn
'Cause I wanna taste the ashes So bitter on my tongue
And I know this is the night we go up in smoke
Tie you out on the edge, run out of rope
I'm gonna turn my phone off and turn the page
And turn up the radio loud
'Cause I'll go down to the deep black waters
And I'll drown the dreams that I made with you
I'm gonna dance on their graves 'cause I've survived
And I'll forgive myself for the wasted times
I'll make my bed on the grass tonight
I'm gonna bare my face to the Stockholm skies
Gonna take my hands off the wheel and fly
I'm gonna free fall yeah, Yeah, I'm gonna free fall
Ooh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
And I wanna start a fight With strangers in a bar
'Cause I wanna taste the blood And metal in my mouth
And I know this is the night we go up in smoke
And I tie you out on the edge, run out of rope
I'm gonna turn my phone off And turn the page
And turn up the radio loud Real loud
I'll go down to the deep black waters
And I'll drown the dreams that I made with you
I'm gonna dance on their graves 'cause I've survived
And I'll forgive myself for the wasted times
I'll make my bed on the grass tonight
I'm gonna bare my face to the Stockholm skies
Gonna take my hands off the wheel and fly
I'm gonna free fall, yeah Yeah, I'm gonna free fall
Ooh yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Wanna fall till I hit the bottom Hit the bottom
'Cause I'll go down to the deep black waters
And I'll drown the dreams that I made with you
I'm gonna dance on their graves 'cause I've survived
And I'll forgive myself for the wasted times
I'm gonna make my bed on the grass tonight
I'm gonna bare my face to the Stockholm skies
Gonna take my hands off the wheel and fly
I'm gonna free fall Free fall
Free fall
Thank you.
For this EP, I wrote maybe 30, 40 songs during the summer and just narrowed it down to 4 or 5 songs.
Just like, I need these songs... Yeah, I need these songs to be strong, and I need these…you know, I need these songs to really mean something to me.
I've heard people saying, "But where's the kind of common thread?" Like, "Where's the sound?" On this EP, I don't really care, you know? It's about the songs.
As long as I can be... As long as I can stand tall behind the songs and like, "Okay, these are my…" you know, I can stand on that stage and rock the songs, you know? So, this EP, it means a lot to me.
It's one of those EPs... or one of those releases that you will always be like, "Yeah.
" - "I'm happy with this.
" Well, you know, you play those songs that you've been working on.
You've been buried in the studio, you've been buried in your little flat back in Stockholm, you've practiced your songs, and then you get out there and you play your songs, the same songs, and people go, "Yeah," and they sing along to them.
That's the crazy bit.
Like, how can it be that they know that? You know, it's crazy.
So, I think that's the best part, where you just sing a chorus, and you can see that people know the song and they sing along.
You love
And how do life's illusions Let your own
My friends at home, they always ask, "How do you write songs? Like, does it just come? How does it work?" But it's…you know, I can feel it.
It sounds stupid.
I can't describe it.
'Cause the water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
And the summer will get its turn After every winter
And the smallest of hopes Will surely someday grow into life
The water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
And your heart will feel the warmth Even though right now, it shivers
And the smallest of hopes Will surely someday grow into life
So dive into the darkness Don't let your demons be your foes
Oh, if you have to suffer It's always best to keep them close
And when you're feeling nothin' There is always somethin' more
Don't even try and fight it Every river finds its shore I'm sure
'Cause the water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
And the summer will get its turn After every winter
And the smallest of hopes Will surely someday grow into life
The water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
And your heart will feel the warmth Even though right now, it shivers
And the smallest of hopes Will surely someday grow into life
There are a thousand mountain dreams under a frozen river
No matter what it takes Frozen river
Yeah, yeah You will feel again
'Cause the water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
The water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
The water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
And the summer will get its turn After every winter
And the smallest of hopes Will surely someday grow into life
The water keeps flowin' on Under the frozen river
And your heart will feel the warmth Even though right now, it shivers
And the smallest of hopes Will surely someday grow into life
There are a thousand mountain dreams under a frozen river river river
You know, it's like art.
I just hope people feel something.
It doesn't necessarily have to be like, "Oh, I love this," or, you know, it could just be, you know, something.
If my music made people smile, or if it makes people cry, or feel hope, or feel a little bit saner, it doesn't really matter to me.
As long as they feel something, then it has a purpose.
But don't you know I'm callin' out Don't you know I'm callin' out
Don't you know I'm callin' out to you?
'Cause we been hangin' out now Comin' up the end now
But you never once looked at me that way
That is gonna change There's a reason why
I'm gonna grow a beard I'll even cut my hair Just to look like guys in your magazines
Don't know if it's me, but I've gotta try
'Cause everythin' I do is to start up a fire
And everythin' I say is to make you smile
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Whoa, I hope you hear me cryin'
But don't you know I'm callin' out Don't you know I'm callin' out
Don't you know I'm callin' out to you?
I started liftin' weights So that I can say
"I'm goin' to the gym What you up to, baby?"
But I hope and pray you don't wanna come
Whoa I got a job at Benny's Savin' up my pennies
I can take you out if you want to, baby
Any day you want Just let me know
'Cause everythin' I do is to start up a fire
And everythin' I say is to make you smile
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Whoa, I hope you hear me cryin'
Hear me cryin' Hear me cryin'
Hear me cryin' now But don't you know I'm callin' out
Don't you know I'm callin' out Don't you know I'm callin' out to you?
Yeah, yeah Don't you know I'm callin' out
Don't you know I'm callin' out Don't you know I'm callin' out to you?
Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh
But don't you know I'm callin' out Don't you know I'm callin' out
Don't you know I'm callin' out to you?
Don't you know I'm callin' out Don't you know I'm callin' out
Don't you know I'm callin' out to you? Hey
Thank you.
So, Ocean, it's pretty interesting because that song, it wasn't supposed to be on that EP, because that song has been with me forever, it feels.
You know, it was recorded in 2013.
It's been released maybe three or four times.
It's just one of those songs that I've never given up on.
You know, I've seen it fail, I've seen it fail, I've seen it fail, and I'm just going to go, "Just give it one more shot.
Just send it to radio one more time.
Just give it another try, it deserves it.
Just put it on this EP again," you know? - Yeah.
- And it happened, you know.
It streamed well.
It sold gold in Sweden.
I think it peaked on 28, on AAA, and it's just such an amazing thing because that means the world to me, that that song that I kept believing in actually made it somewhere.
So, you know, I had to put it on the EP.
I just had to.
Lay your love on mine Lay your love on mine
Let your safety fall Let your safety fall
Lay your pride on the line Lay your pride on the line
No one's keepin' score
No one's keepin' you away from me Only fear and doubt can be the downfall
It's our enemy
Who're you tryin' to blame? It's no one's fault
'Cause inside of me I love you to the core
Yeah, yeah
If you leap inside the corners of my mind
Somersault into my emotions
'Cause I'm a river till you take the dive
Ocean ooh Ocean ooh
So keep your lips on mine Keep your lips on mine
Steady to the shore Steady to the shore
Crash into the lies Crash into the lies
The truth will keep us warm
The truth won't keep you away from me
Only fear and doubt can be the downfall
It's our enemy
Who're you trying to blame? It's no one's fault
'Cause inside of me I love you to the core
Yeah, yeah
If you leap inside the corners of my mind
Somersault into my emotions
See, I'm a river till you take the dive
Ocean ooh Ocean ooh
Ocean, yeah Yeah, yeah
Ooh
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
'Cause if you leap inside the corners of my mind
Somersault into my emotions
See, I'm a river till you take the dive
Ocean, yeah, Ocean, ocean, ocean
If you leap inside the corners of my mind
Somersault into my emotions
See, I'm a river till you take the dive
Ocean Ooh Ocean Ooh
Ocean
Thank you.
Okay, Thrillist Holiday Hideaway.
Thrillist Holiday Hideaway.
It's a tongue-twister for a Swede like me.
Hi, this is Andreas Moe, and I'm here at the Thrillist Holiday Hideaway.
- That was perfect.
- Right on.
- Thrillist.
And I know this is the night we go up in smoke
And I tie you out on the edge, run out of rope
I'm gonna turn my phone off and turn the page
And turn up the radio loud

Artist Bio

Born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Andreas Moe's journey has taken some unpredictable turns. At age 12, the young Andreas would have told you that he was going to be the next Stevie Ray Vaughan. Four years later, Andreas realized that he had a true talent for writing songs and quickly became a sought after writer, session guitarist, producer and singer and found himself signing his first publishing deal at 22 years old. Andreas has lent his vocals and written songs for leading names in the pop and dance worlds such as Avicii, Tisto, Hardwell, Boyzone, Lawson and John de Sohn. However, his heart has always been pursuing his own singer-songwriter career.

His first two EPs Collecting Sunlight (2012) and This Year (2013) were critically received, and shortly thereafter he signed to Sony Music in Scandinavia, Germany, and Benelux. Andreas headlined no less than three European tours following his album debut. His debut album Before The Rumble Comes was released in 2015.

Andreas has supported the likes of Gabrielle Aplin and Kodaline, and was recently personally chosen by John Mayer to be the main support on his 2017 8-date European arena tour that wrapped in May.

The singer songwriter from Sweden follows the viral success of Ocean (with its 11 million combined streams on Spotify and YouTube) and Gold status in Sweden with an infectiously, and equally catchy Nettwerk debut track called Bus Stop.

With a reputation for expressive songwriting and captivating melodies, 2017 is set to be another stellar year for Andreas Moe and his rising career.
