Show Review

Tom Walker is a singer-songwriter who was born in Scotland and raised in Manchester. When you first see the singer and his acoustic guitar, you think you know what's coming next, but plot twist: you don't. As soon as he starts playing, the catchiest, most infectious chorus pours out, along with his ferocious growl. "...Counting our blessings / But it don't take us too long / 'Cause our lives ain't like a movie / Or a Katy Perry song," he sings with a bit of humor in his song "Blessings." That's not the only uplifting song he's written about good relationships either. He also played his single "Just You And I" (which earned over 25 million streams on Spotify) for us when he stopped by Baeble HQ. "You're the only one who brings light just like the sun / one step at a time, just you and I," he sings, and at this point, the entire office is trying not to cry (we know it's a happy song. Happy tears, people).

When asked to describe his music, he responded with a slightly hesitant answer, as if he was asking us to confirm, "Starts with kind of hip hop beats. Very guitar influenced. A little bit of blues in there. My voice is quite growly With like, a little of reggae, in a pop song format?" Not sure why he was doubtful, because it's pretty spot on. If you're into singer-songwriters who make pop music with a reggae flare, Tom Walker's NEXT Session is going to be your new favorite.

My name is Tom Walker.
I'm a Singer/Songwriter.
Born in Scotland, raised in Manchester.
Yeah, that's about it really.
All right, wicked.
I'm Tom Walker.
This is my song "Blessings.
' It's about... I live in a house with seven people in London.
So I guess it gets a bit hectic sometimes.
And it's kind of easy to take life for granted sometimes, but not with my mates that I live with.
So this is for them.
Well, I'll be going out tonight
We could go to yours
You could come to mine
I got no money for the pub, no
Could probably scrape enough for the bus though
And what a time to be alive
Four bottles down my neck and I'm feeling fine
So let's hear it for the good times
Let's hear it for the good times
And counting our blessings But it don't take us too long
'Cause our lives ain't like a movie Or a Katy Perry song
And counting our blessings 'Cause we got friends to lean on
Got no money in our pockets We're too busy getting drunk
We're counting our, just counting our blessings, no
Just counting our, just counting our blessings
Well, I really hate to kill the vibe
But who's going to the shop
We could use supplies
I'm busy playing FIFA
You won't know I'm gonna beat ya'
And what a time to be alive
Fat Freddy's on the Drop on Spotify
So let's hear it for the good times
Let's hear it for the good times
Been counting our blessings But it don't take us too long
'Cause our lives ain't like a movie Or a Katy Perry song
And counting our blessings 'Cause we got friends to lean on
Got no money in our pockets We're too busy getting drunk
We're counting our
And when the night is over
Lay your head upon my shoulders
Glad I'm coming down with you
'Cause nothing really matters
As long as you're right here
Been counting our blessings
But it don't take us too long
'Cause our lives ain't like a movie
Or a Katy Perry song
And counting our blessings
'Cause we got friends to lean on
Got no money in our pockets
We're too busy getting drunk
We're counting our, just counting our blessings, no
Just counting our, just counting our blessings
We're counting our blessings, oh, just counting our blessings
We're counting our, Just counting our blessings
We're counting our, Counting our blessings
Yeah, really, really good.
Both gigs in New York were amazing.
They reminds me a little of a...because I live in London now.
So it's like a much bigger version of London, but it kind of feels a little homely.
There's parts in New York that look a little bit like London.
So I don't feel like I'm a seven-hour flight away from home.
So I feel like I'm just right around the corner.
Yeah, I was thinking about that yesterday.
It's a weird one.
I kind of wrote a song called "Just You and I" in my basement like a year ago in five hours and kind of thought nothing of it, and then here we are like a year later in the States playing it to people.
So.
Let's get drunk I'll pour my heart out through my mouth
This year's been hard for us no doubt Let's raise a glass to a better one
And all the things that we've overcome, Are bring home to us 'cause,
Me and you, we can hold this out, Only you understand how I'm feeling now,
And I know, that I can tell you anything,
You won't judge You're just listening, yeah
'Cause you're the best thing that ever happened to me
And I know that I can tell you anything You won't judge you're just listening
'Cause you're the best thing that ever happened to me
'Cause my darling, you and I Could take over the world
And one step at a time, Just you and I
'Cause you're the only one, Who brings light just like the sun
One step at a time Just you and I
So let's get drunk, We'll reminisce about the days,
We were broke, not getting paid Or taking trips at the weekend
When I would drop down to see you And we would paint the town
Too many chugs, I'll be passing out Cause I can never keep up
Quad vods, now I'm puking open
And I know, I can tell you anything
You won't judge You're just listening, yeah
'Cause you're the best thing that ever happened to me
'Cause my darling, you and I Could take over the world
And one step at a time, Just you and I
Cause you're the only one, Who brings light just like the sun
One step at a time Just you and I
Tired of chasing paper, Staring at this screen
Been saving up for weeks now Just to get to you my dear
And though you're far from my home, This ain't no weekend bar
And oh my heart grows fonder, Must be city love
'Cause my darling, you and I Could take over the world
One step at a time, Just you and I
'Cause my darling, you and I Could take over the world
One step at a time, Just you and I
'Cause you're the only one,
Who brings light just like the sun
One step at a time Just you and I
Yeah one step at a time, just you and I Yeah one step at a time, just you and I
So hard to describe it.
It always is such a tough one.
I think, like, it starts with kind of hip hop bass.
It's always where I like to start.
Very guitar influenced.
I think a bit of blues in there.
My voice is quite growly with like a little lilt of reggae in like a pop song format almost.
Sound about right? I think it's a combination of everything, I would say.
I mostly write about stuff that's going on in my life.
And if it's not, or it's not happening to me or a friend, I found it hard to lie about.
I think the only song that I have done is "Play Dead," which is about zombie apocalypse which obviously hasn't happened.
So apart from that, everything's mostly you know, an experience I can relate to.
You know the way my blood runs 'Cause darling you're the only one
Can you and I go somewhere? Go somewhere we can be alone
Lying like John and Yoko Or fake our deaths and leave
'Cause am I tripping, are you with me? 'Cause darlin' you're the only one
'Cause the world is going mad You and I should hide away
I can't stand the TV screen Turn it off, pull the plug
They can try, they won't find us
Slow down your heartbeat And close your eyes and don't speak
And lay with my body And play dead, just play dead with me
No need to escape We can find our own way
You got me hiding in cupboards Just play dead, just play dead with me
We'll stock up some rations So we don't have to leave this room
I'm dead, don't care what happens As long as I'm in here wth you
'Cause the world is going mad You and I should hide away
'Cause I can't stand the TV screen Turn it off, pull the plug
They can try, they won't find us
Slow down your heartbeat Just close your eyes and don't speak
And lay with my body Play dead, just play dead with me
No need to escape 'Cause we can find our own way
You got me hiding in cupboards Just play dead, just play dead with me
Play dead with me, just play dead with me Play dead with me
You know that I was quiet We'll walk outside into the sun
We'll run a light in thousands Cause everybody else is growing old
So slow down your heartbeat Close your eyes and don't speak
Lay here with my body And play dead
Slow down your heartbeat Close your eyes and don't speak
And lay with my body Play dead, just play dead with me
No need to escape We can find our own way
You got me hiding in cupboards Just play dead, just play dead with me
Play dead with me Just play dead with me
Just play dead with me Just play dead with me
Counting our blessings, oh, just Counting our, counting our blessings,
We're counting our blessings oh Counting our blessings,
We're counting our, Counting our blessings
Counting our blessings
