We were recently visited at the Baeble studios by alt-pop singer/songwriter morgxn, who had the chance to perform stripped down versions of some of his songs. Armed with just a piano, he let his voice shine, switching between powerhouse vocals and delicate vibrato.
He obviously has the talent, but dig a little deeper and you'll find that he has the heart to go with it. Each of his songs drips with emotion and meaning. "Me without you," one of the songs morgxn played for us during this session, is a sweet message to his late father. "It took me a long time to find the words to say how much I missed him when I wrote that song I remember feeling like I had finally said what I was trying to say and it was almost like I had released that from my body," said morgxn. "Getting to revisit the song, it brings it back up. But that's like the gift of music, I get to carry him with me."
He also performed "Home," a song that perfectly captures the joy of finding a place where you belong. Both songs can be found on morgxn's debut album, Vital, which was released May of this year. Vital, mixes soft synths and instruments to create a unique and catchy backdrop to his moving lyrics. Over the course of the album, morgxn strives to discover what parts of his life are vital to him and which are not. Through various impactful experiences in his life, he weaves together an honest representation of himself and creates a beautiful ode to individuality.
Alternative singer/songwriter Morgxn combines electronic atmospherics with a sensual R&B-influenced delivery, similar to Oh Wonder, Jack Garratt, Jon Bellion, and Bishop Briggs. Born in Nashville, the soulful artist grew up surrounded by music, guided by his grandfather, a former vaudeville singer. Based in both New York City and Los Angeles, Morgxn signed with Wxnderlost Records and released his debut track, "Love You with the Lights On," in 2016. Later that year, he issued a cover of Duran Duran's "Notorious" and the thumping rocker "Home." The popularity of the latter -- which spawned remixes by LEFTI, Joywave, and Toy Armada -- helped the artist exceed four million online streams. In 2017, he issued "XX" and "Hard Pill to Swallow."
