Few sessions in our catalogue bring us as much joy as the one Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano turned in back in 2014. The duo, who answer to the name Johnnyswim, are as cute and cuddly as they come, like some modern day re-incarnation of Sonny and Cher. Within moments of meeting them, you know theirs' is the kind of LOVE spelled out in big capital letters. And honestly, it's not even that revolting (you know those people, who hang all over each other and generally make everyone uncomfortable with the scene?)! Their love is the real deal...I mean, they made a baby together. And they're a hoot to hang out with...especially during the holidays.
"I love Christmas," Abner proclaimed during the band's recent visit to our Park Slope outpost. "I think it's an above average love for Christmas. Amanda, however, has I think what some would call an obscene passion for Christmas!" Hence the band's Johnnyswim Christmas EP and 2nd annual tour that's currently circling the country. During the band's two night, sold out run on The Bowery Ballroom, Abner and Amanda stopped by to get our crew in the holiday spirit, and I'm telling you, if this here session doesn't give you the warm fuzzies, something is seriously, seriously wrong with you, Mr. Grinch. Here the band saunter through a lovely medley of "Winter Wonderland" and "Baby It's Cold Outside"...It all makes for the loveliest of sessions. Happy holidays y'all!
- Merry Christmas. - It's very Christmas-y, it's my favorite. The exciting thing about the Christmas tour is that it just kind of feels like a Christmas party every night. - Well the reason it's annual, first of all, is because we could only get one Christmas each year. So far, we're working on it. But we're doing it every year until we get exhausted. So... - So next year we're not gonna do it! - We're not gonna do it next year! Sleigh bells ring Are you listening In the lane Snow is glistening A beautiful sight We're happy tonight Walking in a winter wonderland Gone away is the bluebird Here to stay is the new bird He's singin' our song As we go along Walking in a winter wonderland In the meadow we can build a snowman Then pretend he is Parson Brown He'll say: Are you married? We'll say: No man But you can do the job When you're in town Later on We'll conspire Have a drink by the fire And face unafraid These plans that we've made Walking in a winter wonderland Later on We'll conspire I'll take that drink by the fire We'll face unafraid All those plans that we've made Walking in a winter... I really can't stay Baby it's cold outside I've got to go away - Darlin' it's cold outside This evening has been So lucky that you dropped in So very nice I'll take your hand just like I should My mother will start to worry Beautiful, what's your hurry My father will be pacing the floor Listen to that fireplace roar So maybe I'd better scurry Beautiful, please don't hurry Well maybe just a half a drink more Put some records on while I pour Neighbors might think... Baby, it's bad out there Hey, say, what's in this drink? No cabs to be had in Brooklyn I wish I knew how Eyers are like starlight now To break this spell I'll hold your hat, your hair looks swell I ought to say no, no no sir Mind if I move in closer? At least I'm gonna say that I tried What's the sense in hurting my pride? I really can't stay Baby, don't hold out Ah, but it's cold outside So cold outside. Oh baby, it's cold outside It's cold outside So the inspiration for Christmas album, Christmas tour is... I love Christmas. I think above average love Christmas. Amanda, however, has, I think some would call it, obscene passion for Christmas. She's like "Let's make a Christmas album this year..." - We talked about it and they were like, "That's a great idea, " like "You do have to tour the record by September. " So it's like, "We need to start researching, we need to just keep playing Christmas music. " So we just kept playing it, and then whatever songs kind of stuck in our heads was what we ended up recording. But yeah we listened to Christmas music really early. I just love it, it was kind of the one time, my parents traveled a lot growing up, we travel a lot, it was the one time everybody was together. And my mom made it just her job. Like her number one job was to make Christmas special and memorable, and so we did all sorts of fun stuff. I mean no doubt the thing that I'm most excited about this year is our son. I am so excited for Christmas morning. We got him one of those red flyer wagons and like little play area and he loves instruments, believe it or not, he loves music, and especially drums. We got him like a toy piano and little guitar a little drumset. And I just know the face he's gonna make when he comes out Christmas morning, and I just cannot wait. And if he doesn't make that face, then I'm going to be slightly disappointed. - We'll put him back in bed. - Okay let's do this again. I'm gonna buy more toys, put more out. - I mean you should've seen us taking Joaquin to Rockefeller Center to see the tree a couple nights ago. It was like the first time we ever saw the tree. And we're like, "Oh, isn't it so exciting!" And you see his face just go...with all the lights and the people and he was just so overwhelmed and happy, and just seeing him, like a little reaction from him got us stoked as we've ever been in our life. It was awesome. - Hi I'm Amanda. - And I'm Abner. - We are Johnny Swim and we are wishing you very Merry Christmas from our home to yours here on Baeble.

Furthermore, the twosome was invited to perform on the "Today Show" stage in Charleston to promote the citys Spoleto Festival. See the performance here: http://on.today.com/13TnNSZ. To support the release, the pair performed at Bonnaroo and will continue to tour throughout the summer. See below for details.
Johnnyswim is Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez. Sudano was exposed to music at a young age with musicians as parents, while Ramirez studied music at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in his native Jacksonville, Florida. Now based in Los Angeles, by way of Nashville, the two began writing and singing together in 2006 with similar influences of folk, soul, and rock. Of the new music Ramirez notes, "We wanted to honor some of the voices that have helped us find our own. Not just musically. A lot of the lyrical content was inspired by words and stories of ones we love. From 'Adelina, a song about the life of my mother, to 'Heart Beats, written during the time when Amanda lost her ownwe hope that every moment on this EP is colored with honesty and authenticity."
