Laurel Halo is an American electronic musician and recording artist from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Laurel moved to New York City in 2009 where she is currently based.
Halo is a classically trained musician. She started writing music at the age of 19 and committed to recording at the age of 22.
Halos work reveals influence from the music of her home state; in particular Detroit techno, hip hop and soul. The physical process and impact of time are reoccurring motifs. Halo has written in multiple styles to date, including ambient, techno, and synthpop, utilizing synthesizers, drum machines and samplers, as well as voice, piano, guitar and violin.
Following the success of the Hour Logic EP on Hippos in Tanks, Halo released her debut album Quarantine on London based label, Hyperdub in June 2012. The album received widespread critical praise, and was named the #1 Album of the Year by The Wire Magazine. Halo also records dance material as King Felix.
