Goldfrapp are an electronic music duo that hails from London, England and came together in 1999. The duo is Alison Goldfrapp on vocals and synthesizer, and Will Gregory on synthesizer. The duo generated positive responses with their debut album, Felt Mountain, in 2000. Despite the album not charting well, the duo began to build a strong local following. Goldfrapp has been involved with music for as long as she can remember and began her musical career as a singer with the electronic band Orbital in the early 1990s, in addition to working with trip-hop artist, Tricky. In 1999, Goldfrapp met the film score composer, Will Gregory and they began to work together. That same year the duo was signed to Mute Records, and went straight to work recording their debut album, Felt Mountain, which came later that year. The album had a folk/electronica feel to it and spawned the singles: Lovely Head, Utopia, Pilots and Human. The duo hit the road in support of the album, opening up across North America, the U.K., and Europe for The Doves and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Their second offering, Black Cherry emerged in 2003, which saw a musical change in direction and incorporated more of a glam-rock/synthpop element into their music. When the duo's third offering, Supernature was released in 2005, Goldfrapp were moving more towards a dance music orientated theme. The album produced three No. 1 hit singles on the U.S. Dance Charts, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Goldfrapp's fourth album, Seventh Tree emerged in 2008 to positive reviews from their fans. 2010 marked the release of the duo's fifth studio album, Head First, which displayed a 1980s synthpop sound and earned the band another Grammy Award nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2010. 2011 saw Goldfrapp back in the studio and embarking upon a new album, in addition to playing three dates in South America at the Personal Festival. 2011 also saw the band leave EMI Records and continue to focus on writing new material for their next album.
