Singer/songwriter Kurt Vile has released a new single, "The Creature," from his upcoming EP. The EP So Outta Reach is due out on November 8th and will feature songs that were originally scrapped from his last release, Smoke Ring For My Halo. Now, these six tracks (five from the "Smoke Ring" sessions plus one Bruce Springsteen cover) are given a chance to see the light of day after being reworked by producer John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth). "The Creature" features Vile's soft delivery over a melodic, finger-picked acoustic guitar. The minimal drum and bass work underneath give the track an ominous, almost Western frontier-like tone during the verse. Once the song hits what could be called an instrumental chorus, the tone changes, becoming less foreboding and sounding more hopeful. "That's all right for me," Vile almost whispers into the microphone. With music like this, it's all right for all of us. Check out "The Creature" below.
