Before we start, can we talk about this cover art? It really screams 70-year-old, right? The background art, the two Windows Office-font titles. Kind of a mess and certainly from a different era. Okay, that is all.

I wasn't alive during Bob Dylan's heyday, but I've seen documentaries, and it's always seemed like he was an older man surrounded by twenty-somethings. So Tempest might be Bob Dylan in his purest form. It's been over 50 years since Bob Dylan released his self-titled debut (look at that face!), but Dylan's making sure we know he's still here. The 35th LP of his career with an album title that has nothing to do with Shakespeare's last play, The Tempest ("The name of my record is plain Tempest. It's two different titles," he says), features some of the legend's fiercest lyrics to date. His voice is a little tattered and far more gruff than it was in the 60s, but that might actually make lines like, "I ain't dead yet, my bell still rings" land harder. Talent and brilliance doesn't wane even as some physical limitations set in. I'm not sure the old Nashville swing style is for me, but if one person is going to change my mind, it's gotta be Bob Dylan, right?
