"Laramie", by Cymbals Eat Guitars
, sounds like the exact opposite of what the band name would imply: washed out, surfy, reverbed guitars are the clear focal points of this indie rock tune from the Staten Island-based band. Frontman Joseph D'Agostino's lyrics, delivered mostly in falsetto "Oohs" are sometimes incomprehensible above the persistent wah-wah pedal, but that's okay. The success of this track is not in its verbosity, but its ability to cultivate a shoegazey, psychedelic atmosphere.
The video, directed by Milton Ladd, is exactly what you'd expect: black and white shots of the beach, psychedelic lighting effects, geometric shapes, guys jamming. It certainly complements the tune, expanding upon the band's surfer vibe and packaging it in a similarly catchy visual accompaniment. The video is released hot on the heels of the band's latest album LOSE
, which came out on August 26th.
