"Another night/Another weekend/Another lonely roller looking for a friend," begins the new Stars' single "No One Is Lost." The track is enjoyable and catchy enough, but it simply doesn't add anything new to our musical vocabulary. It feels vapid, and stands in stark contrast with Stars' past work, which has been anything but soulless. Their tune from 2004, "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead," remains one of the most indulgently tragic and heartfelt tunes about miscommunication and missed connections to date. The refrain of the new track "Put your hands up/ 'cause everybody dies" reflects the complacency of the single as a whole. It's as if Stars is telling us that they couldn't really be bothered to care, but we might as well try to enjoy it.
What do you think of their new single?
